How people change the planet
People depend on Earth’s land, water, air and energy, but the way we use them can cause harm. Clearing forests for farms and cities destroys the homes of countless animals and plants. Smoke from vehicles and factories pollutes the air we breathe. Fertilisers and chemicals from farms can wash into rivers, and huge amounts of plastic waste end up in the ocean. Our daily choices affect the whole planet.
Communities that make a difference
Communities around the world are finding ways to protect Earth’s resources. Some replant forests and set aside land as nature reserves. Cities are switching to solar and wind power and building better public transport. Farmers are learning to use fewer chemicals, and many countries recycle more and ban single-use plastic bags. Individuals help too, by saving water and energy, reusing and recycling, and picking up litter. Small actions add up.
