The Sun warms things up
The Sun gives us light, and it gives us heat too. Sunlight warms the land, the water and the air. On a sunny day, sand on a beach gets hot, and a rock left in the sun feels warm when you touch it.
Staying cool in the shade
Shade is a place where something blocks the sunlight. It is cooler in the shade. Trees, umbrellas and roofs all make shade. On a hot day, rest in the shade and wear a hat to keep the sun off your face.
