Plants and plant-eaters
All animals need food to live. Plants are different: they make their own food using sunlight, air and water. Many animals eat only plants. A rabbit munches grass, a caterpillar chews leaves, and a cow eats grass all day long.
Animals that eat animals
Some animals eat other animals. A fox hunts rabbits, and an owl catches mice. We can show who eats what with arrows: the grass feeds the rabbit, and the rabbit feeds the fox. This is called a food chain.
